Abstract

Under the socialist state system, the banking system of the Czech Republic was one-tier with a strong monopoly of the State Bank of Czechoslovakia (1950-1992). The main specialization of the banking system of Czechoslovakia was aimed at ensuring and state control of foreign trade, loans in foreign currency from the international capital markets for the communist administrative apparatus. At present, a two-tier banking system has been operating in the Czech Republic since 1990.
